The UTEP men’s basketball team will host an open practice in Ciudad Juárez – The Prospector for the first time in program history

The UTEP men’s basketball team made history on October 5 when it held its first open practice in Ciudad Juárez at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) campus. The event was a significant milestone for the Miners, who took their passion for basketball across the border to connect with their Hispanic fan base.

“We are excited to bring our team to Juárez and capture the attention of a fan base that hasn’t always had access to Miner Basketball,” said UTEP basketball head coach Joe Golding. The Miners took full advantage of the opportunity and ensured an unforgettable experience for both the players and fans.

The day began with the Miners hosting a youth clinic where aspiring young players had the opportunity to learn drills and techniques from the team. The clinic demonstrated UTEP’s commitment to community outreach and developing the next generation of athletes.

After the training session, the Miners took to the pitch and fought an energetic team duel that attracted many enthusiastic fans. The back-and-forth gave fans their first glimpse of the team’s chemistry and competitive spirit ahead of the upcoming season.

Although this was just a fight, the game symbolized cross-border unity through sport as fans supported the Miners as their own. Following the scrimmage, players showed their appreciation, signed autographs and took photos with fans.

The Miners will once again make history by traveling to Ciudad Chihuahua for an exhibition in Mexico for the first time, further expanding their reach and strengthening relationships with fans across the border.

The Miners will face Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH) in an exhibition contest on Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. MT. in the Gimnasio Universitario Manuel Bernardo Aguirre with 9,000 seats.
