Texas vs. Georgia: Tickets for the big top five match have skyrocketed

The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in the nation and will face fifth-ranked Georgia this weekend.

Ticket prices for the top 5 match have skyrocketed.

“I think they are well deserved. If you look at ticket prices across the country, if we play A&M, if we play Georgia, the OU game, if you play Texas, the prices are going to be high because we are the best team in the nation,” says Trey Gonzalez, a student at UT Austin.

The game against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will take place on Saturday evening at DKR – Texas Memorial Stadium. The last time Texas hosted a match between the top five teams was in 2006.

“It’s super exciting that they’re coming to Austin. With game day here, I think we have a little bit of an advantage with Quinn Ewers and Coach Stark, and I feel like our team is honestly just having our year,” Gonzalez said.

“It’s going to be a great game, I’m pretty excited,” said UT Austin student Jake Harbuck.

Tickets for the game are sold out on the UT Austin website. The cheapest tickets cost almost $400 from third-party sellers.

“I don’t have $500 on me, I’m a student,” Gonzalez said.

“It’s crazy. I don’t have to pay for a ticket like that, I can get through school, but yeah, it’s crazy. “I don’t think it should be that expensive for a college football game,” Harbuck says.

Full-time students have the option to purchase the so-called “Big Ticket” for a flat rate of $200, which gives them access to more than 120 home games.

“For students, we try to get our tickets on Wednesdays. I hope I get a ticket because everyone wants one,” Gonzalez said.
