New video shows the moment gunfire erupted near TSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – WSMV4 has obtained new video of Saturday’s mass shooting on Jefferson Street that left one man dead and several others injured.

Surveillance video shows a first-hand look at the scene as shots rang out near Tennessee State University. Crowds of people can be seen in the parking lot, including several children, running away from gunfire.

A man can be seen running away and shouting: “He has a gun”, seconds later shots are fired. People scattered and took cover, even grabbing children and carrying them to safety.

WSMV4 has obtained new video of Saturday’s mass shooting on Jefferson Street that left one man dead and several others injured.

According to police, 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson died and nine others were injured. Police believe the shooting was the result of two groups shooting at each other from opposite sides of the street.

The shooting happened near TSU around 5:30 p.m., about 20 minutes after the road reopened following the school’s homecoming parade on Saturday. Police confirmed that a 12-year-old girl and two 14-year-old girls were injured in the shooting but are expected to survive. The other victims are between 30 and 50 years old, police confirm.
