Carly Pearce Drops “Truck on Fire” Video: Watch

Carly Pearce released the cinematic video for her single “Truck on Fire” on Monday, showing her arson – but perhaps her sacrifice deserved it.

“I wrote ‘Truck on Fire’ with Charles Kelley from Lady A, and we really just wanted to write a song that was an anthem for women to feel strong if they’ve ever been through heartbreak,” Pearce says Rolling Stone. “It was a very easy song to write. I love the wordplay in this song.”

In the video, shot by Alexa Campbell, police officers are seen stopping at a gas station where Pearce, the wanted arsonist, may have purchased the supplies to set fire to an ex’s truck. The video then pans to Pearce hours earlier, driving a red Mustang convertible along dirt roads before showing up at the gas station to buy “gasoline in a little red can” and some matches.

“Liar, liar, truck on fire/Flames rolling off your Goodyear tires,” Pearce sings on the track. “Burn, burn, you’ll learn/Never should have put your lips on her.”

Pearce says that in the video she was happy to show off her acting skills and “show a different side of my personality, a sillier and funnier side.” “The only thing I remember is that it was almost 100 degrees outside and I had to shower five times while filming the video,” she jokes.

The production also reunited Pearce with video director Campbell, who also directed her CMT Award-winning film We Don’t Fight Anymore.

On trend

“I always love the way she captures a storyline and brings it to life,” says Pearce. “I feel like she knows me so well and can capture a side of my personality that people haven’t seen yet.”

Pearce is currently on her Hummingbird World Tour with stops in Tampa, Miami and across Canada through November. She will return to the US in March to continue her tour. “Fans can look forward to the most ‘I’ tour I’ve ever done – from the stage design to the instrumentation to the setlist, I’m really proud,” she says.
