Vessel Player V stand bag

Vessel Player V stand bag

You can’t visit a Southern California golf course these days without seeing at least one Vessel golf bag in the clubhouse area or out on the course. The Carlsbad, California-based luxury bag manufacturer is growing in popularity every day. And for good reason – the bags are incredibly well made with high quality products and craftsmanship. They look fantastic. And they even smell great – at least when they’re brand new.

True story: The first time I used one a few years ago, I showed up for class. My buddy quickly remarked, “Oh, that must be their new model. I’ve been carrying her bag for two years.” And this exact scenario has happened to me several times when meeting up with other friends for a quick 18-minute get-together – no matter where in the country I was playing.

I mention this because Vessel just released it Player V stand bag ($429), which the company says promises “the ultimate wearing experience.” From the hidden valuables pocket to the drink compartments, each pocket has been carefully designed and placed to improve organization, accessibility and convenience on the trail. It uses patented technologies such as the padded, ergonomic “Equilibrium” double strap with a rotating mechanism for stable and comfortable carrying. The four-point swivel disc adjusts itself for balanced carry over one or both shoulders. Deliberately placed, high strap attachment points provide better balance and prevent the club from falling while carrying the bag. Then there’s the rotator stand, which combines with a wide, flat base to ensure the bag sits flush to the ground when the legs are fully extended, providing maximum stability and better club spread.

The bag is made of tour-quality synthetic leather with a smooth, matte finish. You’ll swear it’s real leather. And it can be easily cleaned with a damp towel. Another key feature upgrade to this stand bag is the addition of a tunnel to pass the cart strap through for added protection if you decide to ride the cart or use a push cart. Although you can get a 6-way top to divide your rackets into six velor-lined slots, I opted for the 14-way model, which separates each racket individually and at full length so they don’t break when playing bump into each other I wear it. Both versions weigh just under 3.7 kilograms – which is a bit heavy for a tote bag, but honestly isn’t very noticeable when you’re out on the trail

There are antimicrobial lining in the personal pockets, genuine leather zipper pulls and top handle, premium water-resistant zippers, magnetic rangefinder pocket with interior divider and velor lining, hidden velor-lined valuables pocket, quick-access magnetic side pocket and a pair of cooler-lined bottle compartments, insulated cooler bag with drain, large clothing compartment with an inside pocket with lock (yes, the lock is included), outside pocket for valuables, ball pocket, glove patch with Velcro and a combination bottle opener and towel ring. There is an amazing attention to detail throughout. And it’s available in four colors.

There are many good stand bags from different manufacturers on the market. But if you’re looking for a small upgrade – or if you’re looking for a holiday gift for the discerning golfer in your life – this new model is worth a look.
