Man strangled and dismembered after meeting accused killer on a dating app, court documents say

BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) – A man in Michigan was murdered and dismembered after meeting his accused killer on a dating app, according to court documents.

During an arraignment, prosecutors told the court that 40-year-old Robert Tweedly Jr. admitted his involvement in the murder of Justie Stilwell.

Details revealed at a probable cause hearing in September said Stilwell met Tweedly on the dating app Grindr.

Tweedly told police Stilwell came to his house on Sept. 14 but wanted to leave shortly afterward. The 40-year-old is accused of pushing Stilwell down the basement stairs and strangling him.

After failing to get his body up, Tweedly allegedly went to Walmart to purchase a rope, but that didn’t help, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Tweedly said he went to Walmart the next day to buy an ax and bags to dismember Stilwell’s body.

He claims he threw Stilwell’s legs and arms into the Saginaw River and placed his head and torso near the boat launch, court documents say.

Tweedly was arrested Sept. 25 at a Bay City home and charged Sept. 27 with open murder, digging and mutilation of a corpse.
