That was great fun

That was great fun

The locker room interview (Friday) with Romeo Doubs was hard to watch. I’m sure it was uncomfortable for him and the reporters asking the questions. We still don’t know what really happened last week, and we don’t need to, and it reminded me how young the men are in this locker room. I sincerely hope that Packers fans welcome Rome to Lambeau with a loud roar of support on Sunday!

We may never know the full story, and that is Doubs’ right. I have no problem with that at all. But for those in the inbox (not posted) who are vilifying the media based on what Doubs said on Friday, it’s important to note this: Whatever the issue is/was, how he handled it led to this he was suspended for one game. This is not a step the organization ever takes lightly. Let’s all just hope it’s behind us now.

During the game, I saw that the Packers rank third in the league in rushing (maybe higher after Week 6). My question is, when was the last time our running game was this good? Tips? Ahman Green? Oh, and go pack!

The Packers added 179 rushing yards to their season total on Sunday, putting them at over 1,000 yards in six games. The last time Green Bay finished in the league’s top five in ground game was in 2003 (third) when Green scored 1,883 points. The Packers were also ranked in the top 10 in 2013 (seventh), which was Lacy’s rookie year, when he and Starks combined for more than 1,600 yards, and in 2020 (eighth), when Jones and Williams also combined for more than 1,600 yards.

Hats off to Kenny Albert for his 500th NFL game! What a run for him!

Wow, I had no idea. That’s pretty cool.

A critical call from Thursday night’s game left me a little confused. The replay showed a muffed punt when the 49ers player was blocked by the Seattle player, but it was decisive ball play by the Seahawks. You said the replay team didn’t have access to the shot of the ball hitting the Seahawks player? Luckily, I don’t think this had much of an impact on the outcome of the game. But how the hell does this happen in today’s NFL? I thought the replay team had access to all the camera footage shown on TV?

It should. I don’t know how this can happen either and I trust the league to look into it.

FOX Sports was quick to call it quits after the game, but did the Melton brothers swap jerseys?

Greetings! And gratitude for all your valuable perspective, deep knowledge, and funny humor! You only mentioned one group of brothers other than the Meltons that played against each other in the NFL (offense/defense). What about the Wisconsin-based Watts? Wasn’t one of the three crimes? And what about Howie Long’s sons? I thought one was offense and one was defense. Thanks for the confirmation!

I believe when he was a fullback for the Chargers, Derek Watt played both JJ for Houston and TJ for Pittsburgh. But their positions — with the more well-known Watts both being pass rushers — didn’t lend themselves to lining up directly across from each other, which was the origin of our discussion. The same goes for guard Kyle and defensive end Chris Long, who have performed well in a few Bears-Rams clashes during their time.

Something that came to mind from an “Unscripted” conversation. Did Clay Matthews play against his brother a few years ago?

He played against Jake Matthews, his cousin.

Question: On Packers Unscripted, you introduce Wes in one or three ways: 1) My trusted colleague; 2) My partner in crime or; 3) The only thing. What determines which introduction you use?

The look on his face. Or just my mood.

Hello Mike. I stayed in Wausau on my drive from Idaho to UK for the Cards and Texans games. I know you’ve covered high school sports here. Did you have ambitions to pursue sports journalism professionally at the time? And if so, did you see a specific path to get there or was there a lot of “right place/right time”?

Both. When I left the Wausau Daily Herald and moved to the Green Bay Press-Gazette to continue covering high school and college sports, I had hoped to eventually be with the Packers. But after 5½ years, there was no movement among those on the daily reporting team and above me with more seniority. Because I had lost some enthusiasm for preparation, I actually retired from the newspaper business when my second child was on the way. But two years later, I learned that the Packers were looking for a full-time website writer for the first time. I threw my hat in the ring and voila.

Hi Mike, I left something for you on your chair in the press box, hopefully it will still be there on Sunday and you can use it the next time you visit Colorado. Sorry Wes, I didn’t have any tickets for free sarsaparillas, but I’ll definitely buy yours too!

Thanks Rick. Got her. You’re too nice. I hope you enjoyed your tour.

That was the definition of a well-coordinated team. Now just let the train keep rolling.
