Nottingham Forest need to sign a “confident” player on loan in January, he has now been snubbed by his country

Nottingham Forest allowed a number of players to leave the club in the summer and despite signing a new centre-back, Andrew Omobamidele remained on Trentside.

Omobamidele moved to Forest from Norwich City for £11m and he started getting minutes in the senior ranks following the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo in December.

Omobamidele was a new signing who once again made it clear that he was not part of Steve Cooper’s recruitment plan. He didn’t make a single appearance under the former boss, and the arrival looked strange, to say the least.

The 22-year-old made his debut for Forest against Blackpool in the FA Cup. Omobamidele scored as the Reds went all out in return to knock out the League One team.

The defender finished last season with 14 appearances for Forest. Omobamidele’s defining performance probably came in the 3-1 win over Fulham where everyone in the team gave their best to secure a big win.

Andrew Omobamidele has been snubbed on the international stage

The Republic of Ireland is a nation that is struggling badly on the football pitch. They lost 2-0 to Greece last night after a narrow 2-1 win against Finland last week.

However, it is three defeats from four games in the Nations League and it has been a real challenge for the Republic of Ireland recently.

Omobamidele played in a 2-0 defeat to Greece during the last international break, but he did not play any football during that time with the Republic of Ireland squad.

Omobamidele has yet to feature in a Premier League game for Forest this season and now this snub on the international stage must give him cause for concern.

The defender played the entire game as Forest were beaten on penalties by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, but having been off the bench in the Reds’ last three games, there is now real cause for concern.

Forest need to sign Omobamidele on loan in January

With Willy Boly picking up an injury, it perhaps makes sense that Forest have opted to keep Omobamidele during the summer transfer window.

However, the club now has Boly back to full fitness and Brazilian defender Morato as a replacement for Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo.

Omobamidele is now in limbo. This snub on the international stage will have seriously damaged him and the young player will simply be keen to play regular football.

Playing football is paramount to a player’s development and it doesn’t look like Omobamidele will be playing much for Forest this season.

The defender has plenty of Championship experience, having played 45 times for Norwich in the second division, and a move back to this league in January seems logical.

Forest have a talented player on their hands in Omobamidele, but it is now imperative that he plays football in the second half of the season.
