Frazer Clarke underwent surgery less than 24 hours later his emphatic defeat to Fabio Wardley in the British heavyweight title rematch on Saturday evening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 33-year-old’s recovery will take between six and eight weeks.

Wardley hit a shocking right hook that resulted in Clarke being hospitalized with jaw and cheekbone damage. Wardley and Clarke met again after an exciting British and Commonwealth heavyweight title fight earlier this year; Clarke promises to return from injury

Their first fight ended in a split decision draw in London in March, although Wardley knocked out Clarke in the first round on Saturday. Wardley needed just two minutes and 28 seconds to defeat Clarke in their rematch on Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Frazer Clarke has undergone “successful” surgery to repair the damage to his jaw and cheekbones he suffered following his first round defeat to Fabio Wardley.

“Frazer successfully underwent minor surgery today,” Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom said Sunday afternoon. “He is feeling well and rested and will return to the UK this evening to continue his recovery with his family,” he added.

“He is more motivated than ever to come back bigger and better in the new year. He would like to express his heartfelt thanks to the well-wishers and we hope for a speedy recovery,” he continued.

After defending his British and Commonwealth heavyweight championships on Saturday, Wardley sent his best wishes to Clarke following the conclusion of their fight.

“I want whoever I’m with to go back to their family and I hope they’re okay. I hope I can talk to him afterwards because the first 12 laps we shared first were special,” Wardley said.

“I had to make a statement tonight. I appreciate the war last time and what a great spectacle that was,” he added.

Clarke’s healing is expected to take six to eight weeks.

Wardley can now concentrate on his own future. He has shown that he can break onto the global stage.

“I’m ready to give these guys a try. I have the strength to mix it with them all, I can try and I can fight a war,” said the British champion.

“You saw how I did everything. I am now ready for this world stage,” he assured.
