Lincoln churches band together and raise money to end hunger

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Dozens took part in a walk to end hunger in Lincoln on Sunday.

The 55th annual CROP Hunger Walk raised money for local food pantries.

Several churches joined together for the cause and began their walk at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church near 40th and A Streets.

“Hunger and poverty were a big problem everywhere,” said Pastor Tobi White. “But here in Lincoln I know the need is great because prices are changing but wages are not.”

A quarter of the money goes back into the Lincoln community. The rest goes where it is needed most.

Linda Nelson, one of the walkers, said she was happy to do her part to help with something that affects so many people in the capital.

“Many of us have been involved in our community in careers like teaching where we have seen this up close and personal,” Nelson said. “We have seen how this hunger has impacted our children and their families. For anyone who is aware, knowing that 25% of your dollar is coming back here means you are doing something about hunger in your community.”

White said it’s incredible to see so many people want to donate.

Your goal is $20,000.

“It always feels good to know you’re making a difference,” she said.
