“Tracker reveals what happened to Robin Weigert’s character after Star’s exit”

After debuting in the coveted post-Super Bowl spot earlier this year, tracker became a huge hit for CBS. The Justin Hartley drama had only been gaining traction ahead of Sunday night’s Season 2 premiere, but there was a bit of a hiccup for the cast along the way to its return. Over the summer it was announced that Robin Weigert was one of the series’ few regular players tracker in the first season (and the most seasoned TV veteran in the cast), would not be returning for the second season.

During the first season of trackerWeigert played Teddi Bruin, one of Colter Shaw’s (Justin Hartley) caregivers and close friends. She, along with her wife Velma (Abby McEnany), acted as half a duo, bringing Colter new jobs and information whenever possible.

Part of what made the news of Weigert’s departure so strange was the fact that McEnany remained a series regular and Velma would be acting without Teddi in Season 2. Keeping Velma around requires a more detailed explanation regarding the character’s absence tracker delivered such an explanation during Sunday night’s season 2 premiere.

At the start of the premiere, Velma calls Colter about a new job, prompting him to ask how Teddi is doing. Velma alludes to Teddi staying with her mother and taking care of her when she has health or family problems. She also points out that this situation could potentially put a strain on their relationship.

“She’ll be there for a while. She helps her mother find her way,” says Velma Colter. Asked if she might be going back and forth, Velma adds: “I was… in the way, you could say. It really wasn’t good, so I came back.”

The beauty of this approach, at least for Teddi fans, is that it leaves Weigert’s character the opportunity to return at any time and insert himself back into the story. Meanwhile, Velma isn’t completely alone. She spends the premiere in Chicago with Reenie (Fiona Rene) and sets up the office of her new company. Keeping these two together for at least part of the season allows some of the larger supporting characters to remain tracker caught up in each other’s stories. It also prevents them from simply existing as characters on Colter’s phone and laptop, which opens up more narrative possibilities for everyone involved.

So far there has been no information as to whether Weigert would like to return to the cast in the future.
