The 76ers projected they would trade for a million spark plug at the NBA deadline

It’s hard to imagine the Philadelphia 76ers turning down additional talent for the right price, especially after the recent move from the New York Knicks.

The Knicks’ acquisition of star Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves may have put unexpected pressure on team president Daryl Morey and the Sixers’ front office. If Morey decides to explore more trade options, Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton is a name to consider.

FanSided’s Elijah Hamilton believes trading for Sexton could allow them to overtake the Knicks.

“For starters, they could send several key role players to the 76ers in return for draft picks, and younger players in particular could benefit from finding a new home, namely Collin Sexton,” Hamilton wrote.

Sexton, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard, is one of the league’s most active defenders while also providing efficient scoring on offense. Last season he averaged 18.7 points on 48.7% shooting and regularly caused havoc in the other team’s backcourt.

“Sexton has proven to be a dynamic scorer off the bench throughout his NBA career and was a spark plug for the Jazz offense in some instances last year,” Hamilton continued. “He can emulate that immediately in Philly as he would be able to function off the bench as someone who brings points to the 76ers.”

Sexton’s role would obviously be severely limited in Philadelphia given how much talent there is at guard. However, if winning a championship is a priority for the 25-year-old, it makes sense to go for the $70 million spark plug.
