Romeo Doubs scores two touchdowns after serving a one-game suspension to lead the Packers past the Cardinals

Romeo Doubs wasted no time in his return on Sunday afternoon.

Doubs, who missed last week’s contest due to a one-game suspension, dominated Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field. The Green Bay Packers wide receiver caught two touchdowns to help them move ahead and beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-13. This puts the Packers at 4-2 this season and gives them their fourth win in their last five games.

Doubs was suspended one game for “conduct detrimental to the team,” which led to him missing last week’s 24-19 win at the Los Angeles Rams. Doubs reportedly missed two practices in the days leading up to that game because he was upset with how the Packers were using him in their passing game. He addressed the situation on Friday and denied that report. Doubs said he sat out Green Bay’s win over LA for mental health reasons.

“I absolutely wish I had handled things differently,” Doubs said.

If there were any concerns about the Packers’ passing game, they should be long gone after Sunday. Doubs managed 49 yards on three catches and was targeted four times. He scored his first touchdown of the season on the first play of the second quarter when he caught a short pass down the sideline and dove into the end zone. That gave the Packers an early 14-0 lead.

Doubs followed with a second touchdown late in the third quarter on a 20-yard reception that quarterback Jordan Love barely made as he tried to escape a sack deep in the backfield.

This touchdown came after the Cardinals scored 13 unanswered points and threatened a comeback. Any hope of that quickly faded as the Cardinals fumbled on their next two possessions. The Packers held on the rest of the way and secured the 21-point victory.

Kyler Murray completed 22 of 32 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown in Arizona’s loss that dropped the game to 2-4 on the year. Trey Benson led the Cardinals on the ground with 26 rushing yards on five carries, and Trey McBride had 96 receiving yards on eight catches.

Rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. collapsed on the field, left the game early in the second quarter and did not return after taking a hard hit while trying to make a catch. He was eliminated due to a concussion.

Love threw 22 of 32 for 258 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He hit Christian Watson, who had a team-high 68 receiving yards, and Jayden Reed for his other two scores following Doubs’ touchdowns. Josh Jacobs led the team with 62 rushing yards and 18 carries.

Doubs entered the day with 169 receiving yards on 12 catches and 20 targets this season, his third with the Packers. Before his suspension, he was second on the team in targets, receptions and receiving yards. The 24-year-old is in the third year of his first four-year, $4.3 million rookie contract with Green Bay after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada.

Even though his suspension wasn’t good for him or the Packers, both sides got through it. The Doubs’ comeback game is officially over.
