Clearer skies and warmer trends, freezing temperatures on the way

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) – With high pressure prevailing over the Midlands, skies will be mostly clear Sunday evening.

High pressure will ensure generally clear skies and a warmer trend through Monday.

However, a dry cold front will begin to move in on Monday and Tuesday, causing icy temperatures.

This system helps lower our dew points so it doesn’t get humid outside.

This initial front is unlikely to bring precipitation for most of the week.

Highs on Monday will be in the 80s, but midway through the work week highs will be in the 60s.

By mid to late week, temperatures were well below normal.

This time of year, cool days and freezing nights are accompanied by a cold with dry air mass.

Expect temperatures to be 10 to 15 degrees below normal this week.

Overnight lows are typically in the 40s, with some locations in the upper 30s on Thursday and Friday.

From now on our temperatures will gradually rise towards the weekend.

The outlook forecasts continued dry weather into the weekend with light northwest to northeast winds and sunshine.
