Many of the Jets’ questions will be answered as they face the Bills for first place

Woody Johnson will be sitting in his owner’s suite at MetLife Stadium on Monday night when his Jets play the Bills, hoping that the magic button he pushed this week produces some magic.

Jeff Ulbrich, the defensive coordinator whom Johnson promoted when he fired Robert Saleh on Tuesday, will be on the sidelines for the first time as an NFL head coach and hopes to make a difference for the 2-3 Jets, who are playing for first place The AFC East can make a difference.

Todd Downing, the quarterbacks coach who was named play-caller, will sit in the coach’s box at the press level for the first time and call plays in hopes of scoring touchdowns for an offense that hasn’t produced enough of them.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be on the field tracking Downing’s plays, hoping the new synergy will breathe new life into the wayward offense.

Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator and BFOAR (best friend of Aaron Rodgers) who was stripped of his game-calling duties and handed over to Downing, will play at MetLife Stadium in an as-yet-unknown role.

Saleh will likely be stuck at home, without a team to coach for the first time in more than three years. He either watches his former team or not, but in his heart he knows they are a talented team that still has a chance to make some noise this season.

It’s been a tumultuous week for the Jets, and many questions still remain, starting with how the team will respond to the internal turmoil when it finally takes the field on Sunday night.

When head coaches are fired – especially mid-season – teams usually end up in chaos and/or a complete collapse in the standings.

Yes, the Jets come into this game having lost in each of the last few weeks, but they are hardly a team in disarray.

A win over the Bills at 3-2 on Monday night and the Jets are in first place in the AFC East, tied with the Bills at 3-3 – and with the early head-to-head lead in the tiebreaker.

How will the players react to the sudden change and the emotions surrounding Saleh’s expulsion?

“The message is to play the way we want to play, not because our coach was fired, not because we are playing for first place [in the division]“Not because it’s the Bills, not because it’s a division game, but because that’s what we’re supposed to do,” Jets linebacker and captain CJ Mosley told The Post on Saturday. “Yeah, it’s been a long week. “But when we got to the football field it felt like everything was back to normal.”

Since Saleh’s firing, one catchphrase has been used several times this week: “Hold on your arms.”

“Yes, there have been a lot of changes, but at the end of the day we are the same team,” right tackle Morgan Moses told The Post. “[Ulbrich] has the same people in the locker room – great people. And if anything, it will bring us closer together.

“We have a lot of veterans that have been through numerous situations throughout their careers and I think we’ve done a good job of allowing the younger guys to rely on us for answers and leadership.

“That’s what makes the team tick. We act as a team, as a unit, as a family. “That allowed us to come closer together and really embrace each other.”

Ulbrich, who was brought in by Saleh and remains very close to him, described on Saturday the wild emotional swings for him this week.

“It’s definitely been challenging, exciting and hard on the heart at times just because of the whole situation and my connection to Robert – professionally, personally, the whole thing of what he means to me,” he said.

Ulbrich, a former player, praised his players for how they handled the turbulent week.

“I’m so grateful for this group of players and coaches we have in this building because they’ve been so supportive and because they’ve all pulled together and prepared. I’m really excited about the work we’ve done this week. ” he said. “We have a process here. We’ve tried to improve it as much as we can in this special week and ultimately we’re going to trust that process and earn the right to play free and loose and let it rip on Monday night and earn the right to party This game with your brothers.

“Ultimately this is a chance for us as coaches to get out of there [the players’] Go away and give you the keys to the car.”

Johnson is hoping the car doesn’t hit a guardrail and spin downwards as he sits in his suite Monday night after what some viewed as a hasty decision to fire his head coach, Cliff, just five games into the season.
