The Chiefs’ proposed midseason blockbuster lands in the Pro Bowl five times

Of all the teams to watch at the 2024 NFL trade deadline, the Kansas City Chiefs are easily the most intriguing.

As the Chiefs seek their third straight Super Bowl victory, a feat never achieved in NFL history, the roster of talented players has become depleted. Injuries to Hollywood Brown, Isiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice have left the Chiefs with only Travis Kelce… and not much else.

Despite all of this, the Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the AFC and will be a tough opponent for anyone in the playoffs. But to re-establish themselves as Super Bowl favorites, they’ll likely look to add another quality receiver at the deadline.

Luckily, there may be a future Hall of Famer up for grabs at this year’s deadline. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin called on the Chiefs to sign Tennessee Titans five-time Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a deadline blockbuster.

“The Chiefs reportedly tried to sign Hopkins before he signed with Tennessee, and now they desperately need veteran help for Patrick Mahomes with Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown significantly injured,” Benjamin said.

Hopkins, 32, hasn’t made the Pro Bowl since 2020, but it’s hard to say how much of his decline is due to personal decline rather than poor quarterback play. He’s seen some real no-names at center for the Arizona Cardinals and Titans over the last four seasons.

With 12,476 career yards and 78 touchdowns, there is little doubt that Hopkins is one of the best active receivers. But he’s never been this close to winning a Super Bowl ring, and that thought will have to be in the back of his mind as his career comes to an end.

There’s no better place to hunt rings these days than Kansas City. The Chiefs and Hopkins could be the scariest pairing in the league moving forward.
