Ohio State loses top-three matchup against Oregon as time runs out against Will Howard

Ohio State lost in dramatic fashion 32-31 on the road at Oregon on Saturday night.

The Buckeyes pushed into field goal range, but penalties and incompletions stalled the drive at the plus-38 yard line with just 6 seconds left.

Ohio State still had a timeout but needed to gain a few more yards to have a good chance at a potential game-winning field goal. On the final play, quarterback Will Howard surveyed the field before deciding to scramble up the middle.

But too much time passed before he slipped, causing the game clock to expire – and Oregon to a dramatic victory. Here is a repeat of the last sequence:

This is just the second win ever for Oregon over Ohio State. The Ducks are now in a prime position to have a shot at the Big Ten Championship Game in their first season in the league.

It’s a devastating loss for Ohio State. The Buckeyes had chances to win this game but ultimately fell short and now may need to win to reach the College Football Playoff in 2024.
