NATCHITOCHES, La. – Forty-two unanswered points helped Texas A&M University-Commerce football earn its first win of the year as it defeated Northwestern State 42-21 on Saturday afternoon at Turpin Stadium.

With the win over the Demons on Saturday, the Lions ended a 10-game losing streak, also recorded their first road win since October 15, 2022 and picked up their first Southland Conference win of the season. The 42 points scored are also the most since defeating McNeese last season.

A&M-Commerce defeated Northwestern State 439-330 in the first meeting between the two teams since 2022. Since the Lions joined the SLC, both teams have won on the other team’s field.

The Demons had the ball first on Saturday and had to punt. The Lions thwarted the punt return and gave the ball back to Northwestern State at the five-yard line, and Kennieth Lacy put it in on the first play of the drive for the first points of the day.

On the next drive, the Lions had a third-and-5 at their own 25-yard line. Ron peace (Malakoff) escaped the pressure and was found Jordan Hamilton (Frisco) for an 11-yard gain and three plays later Peace scored Christian Jourdain (New Orleans, La.) for a 30-yard touchdown to tie the score.

After forcing a threesome, BK Jackson (Missouri City – Ridge Point) capped a 10-play, 54-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run.

The Demons wanted to tie the game and drove to the Lions’ 12-yard line after a fumble recovery, but Kyree Anderson (Cy Lakes) made an interception at the two-yard line to stop the Lions’ drive.

In the second quarter, Peace scored with a 34-yard touchdown run to give A&M-Commerce a 21-7 halftime lead.

Peace and Jourdain scored six more points in the third quarter, this time for a 22-yard touchdown. Jourdain was the team leader with three catches for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

CHRISTIAN JOURDAIN SECOND TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT

Peace threw his third touchdown of the game, connecting with Hamilton for a 22-yard touchdown to cap a 15-for-21, 275-yard, three-touchdown performance. He also ran for 31 yards on four attempts and accounted for four of the team’s six touchdowns.

The Lion defense, which held Northwestern State to just seven points in the first three quarters, added a score of its own in the fourth quarter Leon Young (Cedar Hill) had a four-yard scoop and a score, which also forced a fumble.

Lacy rushed outside for two yards for another touchdown and Abram Johnson hit Amaaz Eugene for a 27-yard touchdown for the Demons in the fourth quarter.

Jackson was the Lions’ leading rusher with 62 yards on 12 carries and the touchdown. Luke Jackson (Bensalem, Pa.) went a perfect 5 for 5 in point-by-point attempts while Andy Gallegos (Kaufman) also threw a kick.

Defensively, Anderson and Jaden Rios (Frisco – Lone Star) each had an interception in the game and Young had the ball and scored the score. Brandon Tucker (DeSoto) led the team with seven tackles, including two for a loss, and Anderson had six.
