To promote the new 4K restoration of A Nightmare on Elm StreetIn a new interview for Bloody Disgusting, Englund talked about his role as Freddy Krueger. Just recently, Elm Street Co-star Heather Langenkamp (Nancy Thompson) hinted in a separate interview that she believes Englund has one more Freddy film in him. “I don’t. I literally don’t,” Englund said when asked if he still had an idea in him. “I mean, it could be a gimmick that we do with a close-up or something could do something, but no, I can’t play him anymore. I’m too old.”

I can’t play him anymore. I’m too old.

He added: “But no, there’s no Freddy in me anymore. I could potentially voice a really high quality, animated version. That would be nice if asked, but I know that now I can’t do the fight scenes as more than one shot, one angle. I just can’t snap my head or anything. I’m an old dog! Give me a break.”

Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” reflect on their “40-year-old baby.”

A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund sit down with CBR’s Kevin Polowy to reflect on their iconic film’s 40-year legacy. In this interview, Englund humorously recounts how jealousy over Johnny Depp and Heather Langenkamp’s star treatment on set fueled his inspiration for Freddy Krueger, while Langenkamp shares how he embraces their role as the ultimate “final girl” in horror history.

In the interview, Englund also commented on another fun way he could return to the franchise. He suggested that the third part of the film series, dream warriorcould be remade with a new cast as it is the “most popular” film in the series. Englund hinted that he might make a cameo in the film in a different role in order to choose which character would be ideal for him to play in the possible remake.

Robert Englund would make a cameo as a different character in a reboot

“I would like to be invited when they reboot part 3, dream warriorwhich I think is the most popular film in the series,” he said. “It would be fun to play one of the doctors.” The great Priscilla Pointer, Amy Irving’s mother, appeared in this film. Maybe I could play her role as a male doctor, that’s very cynical. A quick wink to the audience that I can’t believe there is this dream demon that everyone has the same dream about. It’s in the tradition of remakes, especially horror films, to give an actor who was in the original a little cameo, so I think that would be fun.”

Wes Craven wrote and directed A Nightmare on Elm Street. In addition to Englund as Freddy, Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss and Nick Corri starred. The film tells the story of an undead murderer who targets teenagers in his dreams in order to get revenge on their vigilante parents who burned him alive years earlier.

The new restoration of A Nightmare on Elm Street is now available digitally and will be released in 4K Ultra HD on October 15th.
