Fashion Review: Low-rise jeans, micro bags and other Y2K trends are back! – Lifestyle news

Y2K was just 25 years ago, but by today’s standards it’s an era and therefore old enough to evoke nostalgia. Fashion trends that were all the rage in the early 2000s are making a comeback.

Here are five that the internet is dying to bring back.

Low rise jeans

Every time a celebrity like Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner is seen wearing low-rise jeans, people online comment on how much they don’t want the trend to return. Lest they add to their fears, the fashion style has already made a comeback in recent months. Every time you scroll on Instagram, you can see hundreds of women wearing low-waisted pants. Brands like Zara, Abercrombie & Fitch and Gap have all come up with new lines of low-rise jeans in all sorts of styles, be it baggy jeans, slim-fit jeans, bootcut jeans, flares or cargo pants. Typically styled with crop tops, accessories and a nice waist, the trend seems to be here to stay.

Micro pockets

In 2019, Jacquemus launched the Mini Le Chiquito bag. Since then, no one has looked back. In recent years, brands like Hermes, Celine, Bottega, and Prada, among others, have all released bags that are so small that you might not be able to fit all your essentials when going out. These are fashion products that put aesthetics and style far ahead of functionality for consumers. However, everyone from Hollywood stars to Bollywood actors to influencers have jumped on board the mini and micro pocket ship.

What’s actually remarkable and ironic is that big bags have caused just as much storms.

Capri pants

Thanks to influencers and Hollywood stars, capri pants are back. Interestingly, unlike the 2000s, where capris were so bad that only Adam Sandler could wear them well, capris are styled very elegantly this time around. With brands like Zara, ASOS, Dion and Mago releasing new capri collections, they are suitable for wearing to the office, for casual gatherings or even for elevated or festive looks. In fact, capri leggings also have a new image in 2024, with activewear brands taking the lead in newer styling options.

Baby t-shirts and crop tops

Speaking of crop tops paired with low-rise pants, the former is another fashion trend that was all the rage in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Now baby t-shirts, crop tops, crop hoodies and even crop shirts are back. If you need pop culture context, think of films like Clueless (1995) or Mean Girls (2004). And more recently, television shows like Euphoria featured outfits consisting of crop tops, baby tees, and graphic shirts.

Accessories for girls

While 2024 was the year the slicked-back topknot took the internet by storm as part of the “clean girl” trend, it was also the year major girls’ hair accessories returned to our phones and markets. Be it ribbons, bow scrunchies, organza scrunchies, clips, beads, scarves, headbands or large floral embellishments, everything has made a comeback.
