The most disappointing and surprising Dolphins player yet!

The most disappointing and surprising Dolphins player yet!

Earlier this week I asked the question:

Which players have been completely disappointing up to this point in the season? And which players have been a pleasant surprise in the first five games of the season so far?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the question of the day:

dolphin is pleased with what veteran and former Cane Campbell has brought to the team.

It was a pleasant surprise for Calais Campbell that he is still performing at a high level at his age and can give everything on the field. I also like watching how guys behave on the sidelines. Calais was one of the Dolphins who showed a lot of fire and emotion on the sidelines. You can tell he’s invested in this team and isn’t just there for the paycheck.

finfanfromsiam is also happy with Calais, but not so much with Ramsey, who should play better after being named the highest-paid CB in the game again.

Most surprising to me is Campbell with a shout out to Og. I didn’t know how much Calais had left. I find Ramsey the most disappointing. For one of the highest paid CBs, I think he’s been cheered too much so far this season. Dishonorable mention to McGlasses for engaging in shitty calling to date.

Alley Gator is happy with Jonnu’s contributions but disappointed with how Jones has played so far.

Pleasant surprise: Jonnu Smith. I thought MM would bring in the SF offense that Kittle does so well in, but after a few seasons of Smythe, I doubted the Smith signing would have any impact on this version of the Shanahan offense. Finally a glimmer of hope after the NE game. Hope it stays that way.

Disappointment: Robert Jones. I was hoping I was wrong and Grier/MM saw something I didn’t.

Oh, and add that Connor Williams is the starting player for Seattle, on a cheap contract. It was originally thought he would be seeking $10,000, but the injury dropped it to $2,000. Why didn’t we beat that? Then Brewer would play LG instead of Jones.

MIAMI235 is happy with Ogbah and calls out to a few other guys that we need to step up now.

Ogbah…continues to fight for us…surprised but knew he could do it. Cam Smith and Ez, where are you…guys

Miami7 gave us a comprehensive list.

Disappointment:

Tyreek Hill

Tagovailoa

Julian Hill

Eichenberg

Poyer

Holland

Chop

Camara

McDaniel’s coaching

Fuller (somewhat – before the injury)

Phillips (injury)

OBJ (Injury? Whatever the hell he has – he’s NOT helping)

DANNY CROSSMAN

Surprise/approval:

Calais Campbell

Ogbah

Seiler

Wright

Bailey

Warmth for life is disappointed with some of the team’s supposed stars.

the most disappointing Achane waddle; the most surprising streams Ogbah; Calais was good throughout his career

Spok507 is not happy with the stars of the offense, but, like most, is happy with Ogbah’s play.

The biggest disappointment for me is most of the players on offense. Hill, Waddle, Tua, etc. have all gotten their money’s worth and so far have neither impressed nor deserved it. But I think the biggest disappointment is TE Julian Hill. Why he’s even on the field is a mystery – unless they’re looking for someone to take penalties. Use Smith, Conner, Smythe, but let’s just keep Hill on the bench and watch the holding and illegal move penalties go down.

My biggest surprise isn’t really a surprise to me – Emmanuel Ogbah. I understand why they had to release him for salary cap reasons, but I was disappointed because I think he’s one of the players that will step up when needed. That’s why I was really happy when they re-signed him and I’m happy that he’s making plays and setting an example. I don’t think Fangio knew how to use Ogbah (like some of our defensive players), and Ogbah is obviously making every effort to prove that.

SlayerNation1 wants the guys who got new contracts to live up to their huge contracts. That seems like a very reasonable expectation!

The most disappointing thing could be any player/HC* who received a new contract. However, Tua is mostly disappointing. I have been supporting him throughout the offseason and think he has continued to grow and this will be the year he slays the dragon and is competitive against better teams.

Four days into the season and all his Betes Noires are visible to the whole world:

– hyped up from prime time

– spiced up by BUF

-weak arm on the primetime display

-severe susceptibility to injury

-Playing with extreme boldness, carried over from late 2023

No lectures about how some of the wiretapping attempts weren’t Tua’s fault. I believe that INTs are a QB stat because they all even out over time considering that they should be INTs that a QB gets away with because they are dropped. Tua already had that too.

Pleasant surprise sums up the season well: Jake Bailey. If your punter is the pleasant surprise, you have some problems.

*McDisappointing was exactly that on the coaching side. Unprepared, undisciplined, distant on the sidelines and on the podium.

tpl would like to see something from Odell…

I would say OBJ. He showed nothing against the Pats. Julian Hill is just behind. Why the coaches even play him is beyond me when you have Connor and Hayden Rucci.

Alpha6 is happily surprised by Bowser.

Disappointment: Odell Beckham Jr. – receiver – is sidelined as a spectator.

Surprise: Tyus Bowser -LB – immediate effect. I expect more from him as the season progresses.

Warmth for life is another who is unhappy with what Hill brings to the offense.

Julian Hill was the most disappointing player period

Louie the lobster knew that the OL would be completely poor.

Ogbah and Campbell – Pleasant Surprises

Poyer and Walker – disappointments

I already had very low expectations for the OL, so they are exactly what I expected.

daytonadolfan is in harmony with the rest of us.

Campbell and Ogbah and an honorable mention for Seiler! Ramsey is good in the rush, but disappointing in the corner. I really expected some interceptions from him.

There is great consensus for change. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read and answer the question of the day. Join us tomorrow and Monday night for our game live threads, and we’ll be back in the middle of next week with our questions leading up to the Dolphins’ next game.
