North Carolina Megan Streicher shot a bogey-free 65 on Saturday to move into second place with 18 holes to play at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Club.

The junior from South Africa made five birdies to reach 5 under par, one shot from the low round of the day, a 64 from Tennessee’s Bailey Davis.

Duke’s Andie Smith (68-66) holds the 36-hole lead at 6-under-par 134. Streicher is in second place at 4-under 136, Davis is in third place at 2-under and three players are tied for fourth place at 1-under. These are the only six players in the field of 90 who are below average after the first two rounds.

Davis’ 64 helped the Lady Vols post a team-best round of the day, a 2-over 282.

Michigan State (286-283) holds the lead heading into Sunday’s final round. The Spartans are 9 over, three shots ahead of Tennessee. Louisville (+14) is third, Wake Forest (+15) is fourth, Duke (+16) is fifth and UNC and Kentucky are tied for sixth at 17 over par.

Saturday’s 65 was Streicher’s second-best round as a Tar Heel. She is the first Tar Heel to play a round without a bogey since then Kayla Smith two years ago at Texas A&M.

Helen Yeung shot 71 and is tied at 19Th at 5-over 145. Ing. Iadpleum (74), Inez Ng (75) and Reagan Southerland (77) were part of Carolina’s 5-over 285, a seven-shot improvement from the opening round.

The third and final round begins on Sunday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m

Admission and parking (in the lots on Finley Golf Course Road near the soccer and lacrosse fields) are free. Shuttles are available for fans to and from the parking lots and clubhouse.
