YPSILANTI, Michigan (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team was defeated by Miami University by a score of 38-14 in front of 16,903 fans at Rynearson Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12, as the game featured a halftime performance from the world-famous The Temptations.

How it happened
Miami scored from scrimmage on the opening play of the game Cole Snyder (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern/Rutgers/Buffalo) led EMU down the field before finally tying the game with a quarterback sneak on the Eagles’ ensuing drive.

Snyder led Eastern Michigan’s passing attack with 211 yards through the air. The signal-caller also added 37 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Delbert Mimms III (Indianapolis, Indiana/Ben Davis/NC State) He totaled 78 yards to lead the Eagles’ ground attack and added a touchdown to the game.

Miami led 21-7 before Eastern got within one point late in the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown by Mimms.

Max Reese (Chicago, Illinois/Fenwick) made seven catches for 50 yards, a career-best.

Daniel Warnsman (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) recovered a fumble for the Eastern Michigan defense Luke Murphy (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) led the defense with a career-high 10 total tackles.

Eastern Michigan made 8 of 18 (44.4%) third-down attempts on the day.

Game notes
» Mimms led the Eagles in rushing with 73 total yards. The total is the second-most for the running back this season, trailing only his season-high of 145 yards in a win over Kent State on Sept. 28. Mimms III scored a touchdown on the ground, marking the fifth of six games this year he has scored a touchdown. He has scored a rushing touchdown in every game except at Washington (September 7), when the Eagles were held out of the end zone. Mimms III now has six touchdowns on the year. Mimms III also forced a fumble while defending a punt return, marking the first forced fumble of his career. It was recovered by Warnsman, which was the first recovered bug of his college years.
» Snyder threw his first pick of the season. Before the interception, Snyder completed 16 passes in the game and had not thrown an interception in his previous 245 pass attempts. Additionally, the Eagles had not thrown an interception in their previous 168 attempts. The interception marked just the Eagles’ second turnover of the season (and the second fewest in the FBS). Entering the game, Eastern ranked 13th in turnover margin per game at +1.0.
» Eastern rushed for 121 yards in the game. The Eagles have rushed for over 100 yards in five of their first six games this season. The last time they accomplished this feat was in the first six games of the 2022 season, when EMU managed 2,212 yards this season, its highest team total since 2018.
» Murphy led Eastern Michigan on defense and recorded a career-best 10 tackles in the loss to Miami. The 10 tackles are the most Murphy has had in a single game this season, surpassing his previous best of eight sets at Kent State on Sept. 28. It is the third time this season that an Eastern Michigan player recorded double-digit tackles on the season.
» JB Mitchell (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson) returned to the lineup and recorded his first stats of the season in the third quarter when he made a reception for 12 yards for a first down.
» Reese made a career-best seven receptions. The junior is in the midst of a breakout season as he has totaled 19 catches this season, which is a single-season high for his career. Reese’s seven grabs on the day represent the second-highest total by a single receiver on the team Oran Singleton (Clewiston, FL/Clewiston/Akron/Hutchinson CC) And Terry Lockett (St. Paul, Minnesota/Minnehaha Academy/Michigan State) have taken eight each in previous competitions.

Historical notes
» Eastern fell to 6-20-0 against Miami and 3-10-0 against the RedHawks.
» Eastern Michigan had nine players make at least one catch in the game against Miami. The last time Eastern had nine players record a reception in a game was on November 16, 2022, in a 31-24 win over Kent State.
» For the first time this season, the Eagles had six different players with more than 20 yards. The last time Eastern accomplished this was in 2022 in a 38-19 win over Central Michigan on Nov. 25
