The MCU’s Armor Wars film gets an uncertain update from Don Cheadle two years later

Despite being touted as an ambitious addition to the franchise, Don Cheadle remains in the dark Armament wars Film. Development on the project first began in late 2020 when it was announced that it would be a Disney+ show, with Cheadle starring as James Rhodes and taking over the story Iron Man 2 And 3 and we follow the hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he works to prevent Stark Industries’ technology, namely the Iron Man suits, from falling into the wrong hands. After years of uncertainty, this has been revealed Armament wars was redeveloped into a film.

During a recent interview with TVLine to discuss the finale of Fight Night: The Million Dollar HeistCheadle was asked for an update Armament wars‘ Development. The MCU star humorously asked the publication to watch the film for himand further informs that he “I’m not sure where anything is right now” and is just aware of the fact that the project is still going through changes after transitioning from a Disney+ show to a film. Check out what Cheadle shared below:

You can find out and let me know. Yes. I think the word that stands out most in this sentence is “swapped.” [Laughs] I don’t know, I’m not sure where anything is right now. I think things are going through a lot of changes right now and we’ll see what happens, we’ll see what it is.

Marvel’s creative changes may have pushed the film into the background

Cheadle’s uncertainty about this Armament warsThe status comes at a time when many MCU shows have either undergone a creative overhaul during their development or are in an unclear state of production. One of the main reasons for this was the increasingly lackluster response to the studio’s output on both the big and small screennamely Secret invasionwhich, among other Phase Five releases, became one of the worst-reviewed MCU titles of all time Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Phase Four Eternal.

The MCU Disney+ shows have had a ton of post-credits scenes, and that’s all that’s left to pay off and when it might happen.

I just want to respond to Cheadle’s comment: it seems so Armament wars Marvel may have been pushed to the background for now. The studio generally seems to be focusing on the projects that have already completed production, especially those that are frequently delayed Miracle man And Ironheart Shows that appear to be on track for 2025 releases. Even still, with Avengers: Secret Wars Since this is supposedly a soft reboot of the MCU, the studio will have to find a place for Cheadle’s film in Phase Six if they don’t plan on bringing him back after the crossover in 2027.

Our version of Cheadle’s Armor Wars update

Marvel doesn’t know exactly what they want from the project

Don Cheadle's Rhodey returns in the MCU's Armor Wars

Given that it has been almost four years since the project was announced and we have yet to hear any positive news beyond the transition to a film medium, Armament wars feels more and more like an afterthought for Marvel. Cheadle was certainly trying to keep up the anticipation for the title, and his promise of a faithful adaptation of the comics was certainly tempting, especially because it leaves the door open for Sam Rockwell to repeat his own Iron Man 2 Role of Justin Hammer, one of the MCU’s most underrated villains.

…that could pose a problem for the how

Considering the film is supposed to address Rhodey’s grief over Tony’s death in 2010 Avengers: EndgameHowever, I still think it’s possible Armament wars come out laterSecret wars. Given that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back as Doctor Doom for the final installments of the Multiverse Saga, it would actually make sense for Rhodey’s grief to be punctuated by the appearance of someone who looks exactly like his long-time friend, just for him, once again would be fueled by a more villainous figure.

Armor Wars reportedly sees Iron Man technology falling into the wrong hands, and this issue has been explored a bit in other MCU projects.

That said, this could pose a problem for the how Armament wars deals with the revelation that Rhodey was a Skrull Secret invasionand apparently has been for some time. While the MCU ultimately dropped a number of storylines over the years, this could actually be explained as triggering the Cheadle-led film’s main conflict if it explained that the Skrull version of Rhodey Stark was selling technology to the wrong people.
