Film fans with a Netflix subscription have slowly discovered the streamer’s latest horror hit over the past week. Greg Jardin’s thriller comedy It’s what’s inside is a mansion-set body swap spectacle starring a group of long-time college friends who hide many secrets beneath the surface. The film’s chaos ends in a surprising twist ending that not only changes the way you see everything that happened throughout its runtime, but also cleverly sets up a unique sequel that should definitely exist. In the last minutes of It’s what’s insideAfter watching this group of friends climb between bodies and deal with a few shocking deaths, we learn that one person wasn’t really who they pretended to be all night. Forbes (David Thompson), who brought the body-switching machine to the party, was never the person to occupy his own body. It turns out that his sister Beatrice (Madison Davenport) actually swapped bodies with him the day before, stole the machine, and went to the party to pose as Forbes so she could get revenge on the group of people who followed her life ruined years before.

Beatrice takes revenge on most of the party attendees and escapes, not only using the body swap machine, but also in the body of famous Instagram influencer Nikki (Alycia Debnam-Carey). At the very end of the film, we see Beatrice driving down the road in Nikki’s body, a bank account full of money she stole from Dennis (Gavin Leatherwood).

This ending sets It’s what’s inside is perfect for a sequel because it wipes the slate clean almost completely. The machine is in the hands of Beatrice, a character who pretends to be someone else throughout the film, so we don’t know much about who she actually is (other than what other characters said about her). She is someone everyone is watching It’s what’s inside is interested in learning more about what makes her a perfect lead for a second film.

It also becomes clear that Beatrice has developed something of an addiction to whole body swapping. She sets out on an adventure not to live her life as Nikki, but to enjoy the influencer’s body for a while before trying out someone else’s body. This offers endless possibilities for a sequel, as Beatrice is looking for new body swap experiences. Maybe she has other groups to take revenge on, who knows.

Beatrice as a character is perhaps the best choice to star in a sequel, and she would do so in the role of Nikki. The actress who plays Nikki, Alycia Debnam-Carey, is perhaps the most recognizable name in the It’s What’s Inside cast thanks to her tenure as one of the main stars of It’s What’s Inside. Fear the walking dead (Her co-star Colman Domingo served as EP on It’s what’s inside).

So you have the most interesting character paired with the most popular performer and race down the street to a completely remote screen full of chaotic body swap possibilities. Not every film needs a sequel, but It’s What’s Inside set such a perfect stage with its ending that a second round needs to happen.
