Is DC’s Deathstroke and Bane Movie Secret Six?

Under the leadership of DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the DC Universe will look very different in the next few years. The duo ushers in a new era of films and television shows, both within a core DCU continuity and in their own standalone Elseworlds canon. Late last month it was reported that an unexpected new entry had been added to this roster Captain America: Brave New World Author Matthew Orton is writing a film starring Batman villains Bane and Slade Wilson / DeathStroke. This news definitely surprised some DC fans – and also confused them a bit, since Bane and Deathstroke’s paths have only crossed sporadically in the comics. Subsequent reports seemed to indicate that Bane and DeathStroke won’t be the one only Main characters in this mystery film, leading fans to wonder what exactly the project could really be. In particular, is there any chance that Bane and DeathStroke’s DCU debut will ultimately turn into one? Secret Six Film?

The concept of the Secret Six originates from the Silver Age of comics and offers readers a traditional and clear team of spies for espionage missions. The concept was radically reimagined in 2005 by Gail Simone, Dale Eaglesham, Brad Walker and Nicola Scott, using the title to assemble a team of mostly established villains who go on secret and dubious missions as mercenaries. While today’s roster has fluctuated over the past few years, readers tend to associate the team with a combination of Bane, Catman, Deadshot, Scandal Savage, Rag Doll, Knockout and Jeannette.

Even before Gunn and Safran took over DC’s film and television production, there were already loud calls for one Secret Six Project, possibly as a spin-off with characters who survived the events of Gunns 2022 The Suicide Squad Film. But now that the upcoming DCU can employ a larger cast of heroes and villains, that’s a real one Secret Six An adjustment could well be within the realm of possibility – albeit with some minor changes.

It’s unclear at this point what form this mysterious project from Bane and DeathStroke will ultimately take – let alone whether it will even receive an official green light from DC Studios, as neither Gunn nor Safran have publicly acknowledged the reports surrounding this project have taken – but it is not yet released out of the realm of possibility that the film can be complete Secret Six. After all, Bane is considered something of a modern star on the Secret Six roster, and introducing him through that team’s lens would offer general audiences something very different than his previous live-action portrayals as a campy henchman in Batman and Robin and an anarchic terrorist The Dark Knight rises. Although the killing blow is not usually associated with that Secret Six In the comics, he could easily replace Deadshot’s role as the straight-shooting gunman on the Simone-era roster, while also providing a new angle on Joe Manganiello’s short-lived take on the character in the DC Extended Universe. or even the portrayals of Manu Bennett and Esai Morales on DC’s various television shows. Put Bane and Deathstroke – two characters the general audience already knows a lot about – on one Secret Six The film team would also help sell the film on a broader level, especially when the rest of the roster is populated by lesser-known and stranger characters like Rag Doll and Catman.

Plus, depending on where this is hypothetical Secret Six Although the project fits into the DCU’s release schedule, the film could easily establish Bane and Deathstroke’s status quo in the universe without having to fully flesh out Batman himself. The brave and the courageousthe DCU’s planned solo film for Batman and Damian Wayne/Robin, has been quietly in development for a year and a half, with the last major update being this The lightning Director Andy Muschietti will direct. Since then, reports have suggested this too Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Screenwriter Ana Nogueira is writing one Teen Titans Screenplay – a project that happens to be about Death Stroke’s greatest adversaries. Bane and Deathstroke’s stories could easily be tied into these projects in any order, providing a connection between the DCU when it’s still in its early stages.

Granted, only time will tell if the Bane and DeathStroke movie becomes a reality, let alone if it becomes a reality Secret Six. The question of who will play Bane and DeathStroke in the DCU is a completely different matter than Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy Employee Dave Bautista, who has publicly advocated for Bane to play for years, argued in early 2023 that the DCU apparently wanted a “younger” version of the character. But given Gunn’s track record with ragtag teams like the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Suicide Squad, and even the upcoming Creature Commandos, the Secret Six would certainly be a fitting addition to the DCU’s plans.
