IMSA Petit Le Mans 2024 live updates: Acura leads after the first hour

After the first hour, Jordan Taylor led the Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Andretti Acura ARX-06.

It is the team’s final race with the Acura in the Grand Touring Prototype category. WTR Andretti will move back to General Motors’ Cadillac next year after four seasons with the Honda brand.

Taylor was eight seconds ahead of the No. 31 Cadillac of Jack Aitken, who started from the pole position for the first time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series. The No. 5 Porsche was in third place ahead of the Porsche Penske Motorsports 963, which rounded out the top five.

Petit Le Mans ends the season with Porsche Penske Motorsport fighting for the GTP championship.

The No. 6, which sits second in the points standings, finished fourth ahead of its teammate No. 7, who can win the GTP championship with a seventh or better finish.

All 11 Grand TouringTouring Prototype participants were on the leading lap in the first hour.

Cadillac Racing’s #01 Cadillac V-Series.R pitted in the first ten laps but managed to stay on the lead lap. It is the final race for the entry assembled and prepared by Chip Ganassi Racing, which is losing support from Cadillac after four seasons and is unlikely to compete in sports car racing again next year.

GTD pole sitter Scott Andrews issued the first yellow about 20 minutes into the 10-hour race when he spun his No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 into the gravel.
