Here’s how to bring the look into your home without overdoing it

Believe it or not, the ruffle trend is back and Decorating your home with ruffles can be a fun and inexpensive way to give your living space a new look – if you don’t overdo it. House Digest spoke exclusively with Julie Jones, certified California interior designer and founder of Julie Jones Designs, about the return of the ruffle trend.

According to Jones, there are many easy ways to add ruffle accents to your home. “Throw pillows are an inexpensive and temporary way to add ruffles to your interior,” Jones said. “A bed skirt is another way to add ruffles. If they’re the only thing in the room with ruffles, I don’t think you’ll risk overdoing it.” But what does overdoing the ruffle trend look like and how do you avoid the mistake?

Are there too many ruffles?

Keeping up with the latest trends (be it unexpected ’90s design trends making a bold comeback or the return of ruffles) can be a great way to refresh your home’s decor. However, there is a risk of overdoing it if you are not careful.

Jones shared, “If a lot of things in the room have frills, like… For example, accent chairs, curtains and pillows, don’t allow them to be unique and different. Too much of the same texture can cause you to fall into a niche category.” While she says the core Grand Millennial or Cottage styles can include more ruffled textures in a room, Adding more than one ruffled item to another room’s decor style would be overkill. “It’s like one room has too much of a good thing. I like leopard print, but I won’t put leopard print on more than one thing in my room. It is too clear and therefore loses its uniqueness and originality.” “

Will this trend stand the test of time?

Trends tend to fade. The most popular home trends from the decade in which you were born may be coming back into style – or already back on the market. You’re probably wondering if adding ruffles to your home is worth the investment if they just disappear.

Explaining her thoughts on the longevity of the ruffle trend, Jones said, “If there’s one thing I’ve seen in my career, it’s history repeating itself. “I grew up in the ’80s and ’90s and there were ruffles everywhere,” she said. “On our clothes, curtains and furniture. Once something is overdone, it is on its way out as a trend. So if it gains popularity again, it will be a time-stamped trend in 2024.” Although ruffles may soon go out of style, it’s important to make sure your home is a space you love. So if you love ruffles, embrace the return of the ruffle trend!
