Jerry Jones: We’re rescuing Ezekiel Elliott and protecting him at this time

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has 30 runs so far this season and his effort has been the talk of the town this week.

Elliott said that he has spoken He told the Cowboys how little he was used in the first five weeks of the season and that he was “amazed” by the team’s plan for him. On Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about Elliott’s feelings and disagreed with that characterization but said the team is taking a long-term view with the veteran’s return.

“That is an exaggerationJones said. “Bewildered is an exaggeration, a mischaracterization. It’s a poor description of how he thinks about things. He is very aware of the part of the running game that he is a part of. More importantly – and I cannot stress this enough – we are saving him, and that is what we should do. . . . Zeke is there, he will be there because we want to protect him during this special time.”

Jones pointed out that Elliott has struggled with injuries throughout his career and that a team should keep history in mind when deciding how to use a player. However, if the Cowboys don’t take care of business now, there’s no guarantee there will be any meaningful games late in the season. So it would make sense to get more from Elliott if the team believes he can help them win games.
