The Apple Books+ concept shows that we need a book subscription now

The Apple One subscription has been around for a few years now. By combining multiple Apple services into one package, users get access to iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and, at premium tiers, Apple News+ and Apple Fitness+.

However, there is one service that Apple has neglected for years that would make a great addition to the Apple One subscription: Apple Books+. While we keep wondering where in the world Apple Books+ can compete with Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited service, it seems like the service will never see the light of day. Recently, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple has cut some jobs in the book department, showing the company has no interest there.

Still, you can dream. On Threads, Nick Cozier shared an idea of what Apple Books+ could look like and offer – and we really liked it.

According to his concept, Apple Books+ would offer at least seven exclusive benefits. First and foremost, the subscription would bring unlimited reading and listening via the Apple Books+ subscription. What excites me about this concept is the book expanded editions. Although the designer doesn’t specify what it might look like at this point, I imagine it could be a new way to interact with books, e.g Harry Potter or children’s novels.

The service would work daily reading goals, similar to Apple’s activity rings. It would be nice to get users to read more, which helps relieve stress, tension and anxiety. Additionally, exclusive Apple Book Clubs could help subscribers see what famous people are reading and, in some ways, engage with their impressions of the books they read.

Visual storytelling would be available, and of course Apple Books+ would be accessible on Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and iPhone.

Personally, I think Cozier has pointed out all the important features Apple should add to an Apple Books subscription. While it’s unclear whether this service could ever launch, I think it could be more worthwhile than the current Apple News+ service, which seems to rely more on puzzle games than deals with publishers.
