Your FSA and HSA money can buy you a new smart ring: Here’s how

If you have been thinking about investing in a smart ring to monitor your well-being, you can also use the FSA and HSA dollars you have saved to purchase one. Popular rings like the Galaxy Ring, Oura Ring, Ultrahuman Ring Air, and Circular Ring are now FSA and HSA eligible.

Although there are differences between the two accounts, flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts are tax deductible and give people a little break when paying for health care services, products and medications that are notoriously expensive in the United States. Smart rings like the Oura Ring and Galaxy Ring are primarily health trackers, which is why they qualify for FSA or HSA reimbursement.

Here’s how to buy a smart ring with your FSA or HSA dollars

To purchase a Galaxy Ring with FSA or HSA funds, Samsung says to go through its websitepurchase as usual with a debit or credit card, then send your proof of purchase to your FSA or HSA plan so you can receive a refund. Samsung said you can also buy it from a third-party seller Best buy and still be refunded.

To purchase an Oura ring using your FSA or HSA balance, you can purchase it directly from the Oura website using your FSA or HSA card.

However, before purchasing a smart ring with reimbursement plans, you should check with your FSA or HSA plan in advance to make sure you are covered. As Oura explains, plans can set their own eligibility rules and may require additional documentation for reimbursement.

A Galaxy Ring costs $400while the The Oura Ring starts at $300 and increases depending on your color and design preferences. Notably, Oura charges a $6 monthly subscription fee to access its health features, while the Galaxy Ring does not. (Oura says the membership fee is also HSA and FSA eligible.) What other health extras can you use your FSA and HSA dollars for?

You may be surprised by the long list of items that can be purchased or reimbursed with FSA or HSA cards. Everything from eye care and glasses to common medications, tampons, doctor appointment costs, and even more “natural” therapies like massages. In other words, if it benefits your health and costs you money, you should see if you can put your FSA or HSA dollars towards it.
