“Fox Sports’ whip-around coverage returns for Big East men’s basketball opening night.”

You know what we forgot to talk about when the Big East announced its men’s basketball television broadcast schedule on October 2nd?

All-round coverage of the opening night of the season.

And there it is in the press release, waaaaaaaay down there in paragraph #9:

For the fourth year in a row, FOX Sports will provide comprehensive coverage of the action on opening night of the season. On November 4th, the BIG EAST Opening Night Tip-Off will feature live FS1 looks at eight non-conference contests. Full game coverage of all eight games will be available on the FOX Sports app.

I told you it was coming. When I realized that seven of the nine official non-conference schedules released included opening night games, it was just a matter of making it official. About a month after I pointed it out, the Big East and Fox Sports made it official.

Here is the timeout schedule for Monday, November 4th, with all times Central:

5:30 p.m.: St. John’s vs. Fordham
5:45 p.m.: Butler vs. Missouri State

6 p.m.: Providence vs. Central Connecticut
6:30 p.m.: Seton Hall vs. St. Peter’s

6:30 p.m.: Xavier vs. Texas Southern
7 p.m.: DePaul vs. Southern Indiana

7 p.m.: Villanova vs. Lafayette
7:30 p.m.: Marquette vs. Stony Brook

Here’s the good news for you, the respected and attractive Marquette Golden Eagles fan: Marquette is the last game to start. In theory, this means that FS1 has the best chance of only showing the end of the MU game, as it will likely be the last game to air. The St. John’s game should be over when MU starts, so that’s one less game to compete for whip-around spot. MU’s game against Stony Brook also starts 30 minutes after all others. So that’s 30 minutes for every game to get completely out of control and for FS1 to have a reason to go to MU for a clue and stay there for quite a while.

That’s better than tipping at the same time as another game, which is the case not only at Seton Hall and Xavier, but also at DePaul and Villanova. Idiot.

As always, every single game can be streamed in full on the Fox Sports app. If you have a cable subscription and a fancy smart TV, just log in to the app and start using it. It’s as simple as possible.

It could be worse. We could be Georgetown or Creighton. Instead, they chose to start the season on Wednesday and a doubleheader occurred in FS2.
