In 2018, Mike Newell directed Lily James in the British World War II film The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

The romantic drama is based on the 2008 novel of the same name and follows a book club in Guernsey that met during the Nazi occupation of the British Channel Islands.

When James’s London-based author attempts to write an article about the group after the war, it turns out that there are more secrets circulating there than first thought.

In addition to the leading lady, this hidden gem also stars a number of other Downton Abbey actors, from Jessica Brown Findlay to Matthew Goode and Penelope Wilton.

Meanwhile, new Hollywood A-lister Glen Powell is pictured ahead of his latest rise to stardom.

This relatively new British film about World War II has 81 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and “provides delicious comfort food for fans of historical dramas.”

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is on BBC Two this afternoon, BBC Three tomorrow and will then probably move to BBC iPlayer for a while.
