Des Moines, IA – Iowa residents should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures this weekend, with frost expected Monday night. The National Weather Service is warning of a cooling trend starting Saturday, with highs reaching just the upper 60s in northern areas and the low 80s in the south.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, Sunday will bring more significant changes, with highs falling to the upper 50s in northern regions and the mid-60s in southern Iowa. Temperatures will drop into the low 40s overnight, and areas north of Highway 69 could see their first frost of the season Monday evening.

With widespread frost threat that may last through Tuesday night, it is important for residents to protect sensitive plants and consider bringing outdoor items. The forecast continues to cool and highs will barely reach the upper 50s until Tuesday. By midweek, a slight warming trend will result in high temperatures in the 60s, but the risk of frost remains for northern portions of the state.
