It was only a matter of time before Wilson regained momentum during his visit to Cabrillo on Friday night, even after scoring seven points in the second quarter. The Bruins would eventually settle in, scoring 42 unanswered points, including three touchdowns from Jamell Edmonds, en route to a 49-7 victory.

“I just told the kids to calm down. We just had to calm down and do our job,” Wilson coach Travis Clark said of the slow start. “We knew exactly what they were going to do and I just wanted them to calm down and have fun. The most important thing was to have fun and perform, and they just started settling down and making plays.”

Running alongside Edmonds was fellow RB Deuce Weston, who scored the game’s first touchdown with a short jump into the end zone. Weston has now scored in each of his three games since becoming eligible this season and got the job done early against Cabrillo, giving Edmonds room to take over.

“We already know the child is special,” said Clark of Westin. “We’re just trying to get him in shape. He’s still not at his best and he’s like a Ferrari. You don’t drive a Ferrari every day. So we’re just trying to get him ready for the majority of our league play that’s coming up this week with Poly, so we just want to get him ready for that.”

Edmonds reached the end zone twice in the second quarter before QB Elacion Saxton hit Maxwell Barbee for another score. The Bruins took a 28-7 lead.

Wilson capped its scoring in the third quarter with touchdowns from Kori Scott and a connection from Saxton to Hunter Kohagura. Jamell Edmond also added his third touchdown to cap off his impressive night.

In the last two weeks, Wilson has recorded touchdowns from seven different players and six multi-scoring players. The Bruins scored 49 points for the second straight game, and Clark said he was pleased with the team’s ability to distribute the ball about halfway through Moore League play.

“I’m happy that everyone is doing something. I want all of these players to succeed. So if we can get as many kids in the end zone as possible, that’s great. It’s not something that was calculated or thought, it’s just something that happened. That’s a great thing, it means we distribute the ball and everyone gets touches on the ball, which means we perform.”

With their only Moore League loss to date against Millikan, the Bruins are well-positioned for a top-four finish and a guaranteed playoff spot. They will be hosting Long Beach Poly next week.

For Cabrillo, the Jags scored in the first quarter on a connection from Danny Lopez to Israel Clayton. The Jags are in fifth place in the Moore League but will face Indian Springs next week before returning to league play on Oct. 25 at Long Beach Poly.
