The landfill and Greene County Convenience Centers continue to have extended hours, and trash collection has been set up to help deal with the winds and flooding from Tropical Storm Helene.

Convenience centers will be open either two hours earlier than normal or two hours later, depending on their usual schedule. Centers that close at 4 p.m. will be open until 6 p.m. Centers that open at 10:00 a.m. will instead open at 8:00 a.m. All centers are open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The extended opening hours will remain in effect until November 2nd. Normal household waste and recyclables should be taken to the appropriate center.

The Greene County Landfill/Transfer Station is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are open Saturdays through November 2nd from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

While demolition waste can be taken to the landfill, the National Guard is providing free curbside pickup of storm-related debris. Any disaster-related debris may be stacked within 10 feet of the roadway. You can call 620-8482. The Tennessee National Guard will pick up this debris free of charge. Dirt should be separated as much as possible. The National Guard will not collect regular household waste. The county has created a landfill to handle the massive amounts of wood and trash that need to be disposed of after the storms. No one is allowed to bring waste to the rubble site.

Construction debris and debris may not be brought into convenience centers.
