Here’s what happened to the killer bees during 9-1-1’s Bee-nado event

ABC’s 9-1-1 gave their best for the promo of their three-part “Bee-nado” premiere. Killer bees caused havoc for residents of Los Angeles. However, the last two episodes were about a plane crash. The showrunner revealed what happened to these killer bees and whether they will return.

Premiere with three episodes

Over the summer, ABC announced the epic three-day Bee-nado event set to storm Los Angeles. The eighth season premiered on Thursday, September 26th, with the episode aptly titled “Buzzkill.” A pilot lost control of his small plane as it crashed into a swarm of bees. Due to limited visibility, he collided with a large airliner.

Later in the episode, it was revealed that a large truck had released 22 million killer bees into Los Angeles. The truck also caused an accident on the 4th Street Bridge. The bees swarmed into the cars of passengers who were allergic to bees. Rescue workers rushed to the scene and a firefighter looked up at the sky and said: “It’s a bogeyman.”

What happened to the killer bees?

The plot gets even wilder. The focus of the plot is Sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett), who is tasked with escorting a criminal from prison. The kicker was that he killed a police officer, but he served his time.

The characters land on the same flight that crashes into a small plane. The pilot and co-pilot died instantly. The passengers had to offer each other medical assistance.

Sgt Grant had to learn how to land the aircraft safely, which was the focus of the remainder of the two-day event. Viewers on social media wondered what happened to the killer bees. Showrunner Tim Minear explained on Facebook that “Bee-nado” was not his idea. It wasn’t even the original premise of the season eight premiere.

“There is an unspoken rule that promoting September airline disasters as major entertainment disasters is unwise and disrespectful, for reasons I need not explain,” he wrote.

ABC decided to advertise the killer bees instead of the plane crash. The bees shouldn’t be the overarching plot. It doesn’t look like the killer bees are returning either. After the second episode it started.
