Bears Open ITA Northwest Regional Championships

Cami Brown split her singles matches on the first day of the East Bay Regional Championships.


BERKELEY – The California women’s tennis team opened play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Friday at the Hellman Tennis Complex with a Cal graduate student Cami Brown won her opening qualifying singles, but failed in the second round.

Saint Mary’s also hosts the Northwest Regional Championship games in Moraga.

Brown defeated Ayra Salim of Portland State 7-6(2), 6-4 in the Round of 64 before a 6-0, 7-6(4) loss to Emilija Pranyte of Sacramento State in the Round of 32 lost. Pranyte advances to the singles main draw, while Brown next competes in a consolation draw.

Most of the Golden Bears will play in Saturday’s regionals in Berkeley, where eight of the Bears – Jessica Alsola, Lan Mi, Makenna Thiel, Berta Passola Folch, Mao Mushika, Tiziana Marie Schomburg, Sophie Hernández And Naomi Xu – are in the individual main field.
