Video shows Phoenix police attacking a deaf man with a stun gun

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Alarming body camera footage recently taken by Arizona’s family shows a man who was repeatedly beaten and insulted by officers during an arrest in August.

The suspect in the video, Tyron McAlpin, is deaf and suffers from cerebral palsy, according to his wife.

Police body camera footage shows an officer immediately pursuing McAlpin. A nearby surveillance camera shows the officer driving in front of him as he walks before the officer attacks him.

According to the police report, McAlpin fought back against the officers at the time. Another officer arrived at the scene, but his body camera flew off during the incident.

In the video, McAlpin can’t be heard talking, just screaming.

Officers investigated an attack at a nearby Circle K and reported that McAlpin matched the suspect’s description. McAlpin was arrested for assault on the victim, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Phoenix police relented Arizona’s family this statement in response to the arrest:

“This incident is the subject of an ongoing investigation and was assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau, which is responsible for reviewing all use-of-force incidents, on August 30, 2024.”

The arrest came just a few months after the Justice Department’s recent investigation found that Phoenix police used excessive force and discriminated against blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans.

McAlpin’s attorney gave the body camera video to Arizona’s family.
