The home stretch: Marietta Main Street plans tail-wagging dachshund derby | News, sports, jobs

MARIETTA – Calling all dachshunds and their loyal owners! Mark your calendar and get ready for the most exciting and adorable event of the year – the Marietta Main Street Dachshund Derby. On Saturday, October 19, from noon to 5 p.m., downtown Marietta will be transformed into an oasis of tail-wagging fun, and we want you to be a part of it.

The festivities begin at noon with a lively parade walk from the Armory parking lot to the Pavilion in Muskingum Park. We invite all participants to dress their dachshunds in the most creative and adorable costumes – after all, the sight of your decorated dachshunds will have tails wagging and jaws dropping.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the parade. The races begin at 1 p.m. on the Armory Lawn with five exciting categories depending on age. Whether your dachshund is an experienced older dachshund or a fast young pup, there is a race for everyone. Not a racing driver? No problem. There will be numerous fun contests at stations outside of downtown stores where puppies can show off their skills and win great prizes donated by We Lov Pets.

This event is about more than just fun and games – it’s also about giving back. The entry fee is $5 online and $10 on the day of the event. Proceeds go to supporting Marietta Main Street. Additionally, we encourage participants to make donations to the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley to help our four-legged friends who are still looking for their forever homes.

In addition to the races and competitions, there will be vendors near the race site, including representatives from the Humane Society. It’s an opportunity to support local businesses and learn more about adopting and caring for pets in need.

So grab your leashes, gather your Dachshunds and join us for an unforgettable day of racing, competition and fellowship at the Marietta Main Street Dachshund Derby! It’s sure to be a great time that you and your four-legged friends won’t want to miss!

Competition places are: Wit and Whimzy, Green Acres, Dad’s Primitive Workbench, Marietta Makery and the Original Pizza Place

Entrance fee: $5 online. The last day for online registration is October 12th. The entry fee is $10 the day of the event (proceeds go to Marietta Main Street).
