CONTINUED TO BE WORTH IT – The No. 1 Texas A&M women’s tennis team had all five spots in singles Friday at the ITA Texas Regional Championship at the Friedman Tennis Center.

Four Aggies defeated their opponents in straight sets, led by No. 9 Nicole Khirin Winner Kseniya Ramanouskaya of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-1, 7-5. No. 88 Jeanette Mireles defeated by Houston’s Sophie Schouten, 7-5, 6-2. Lexington Reed made quick work of SMU’s Caroline McGinley, 6-1, 6-1. Daria Smetannikov defeated Yu-Chin Tsai of TCU 6-4, 6-2. The only win that required three sets was Lizanne Boyer Winner Gabriela Cortes from Houston, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Texas A&M wasn’t so lucky in doubles, as both pairs lost in the round of 32. After winning a round of 64 against Alice Klinteby/Marsha Vrsalovic of Abilene Christian 8-6, Smetannikov and Boyer dropped an 8-6 decision to Sofia Salcedo/Estefanis Gonzalez of Incarnate Word. Mireles/Reed had a bye in the Round of 32, but were on the wrong end of an 8-5 scoreline against SMU’s June Bjork/Arianna Stavroulous. Mireles/Reed were also defeated by Noelia Lorca/Emma Persson of Tarleton 8-7 (6) in a consolation round match.

The Round of 32 in singles will take place on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Round of 16 at 12:30 p.m

The two singles finalists and the doubles champion from the ITA Texas Regional will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships, scheduled for November in Waco, Texas.
