Steam is quietly rolling out a free download that’s sure to wreak havoc on you this Halloween

This game within a game is full of horror

Looking for something spooky to do this Halloween? Then maybe I have just the thing.

Under ashes is an exciting new indie horror set to release later this year, but there’s a demo available to coincide with Steam Next Fest for players to try out – and I highly recommend you do just that.

Developed by Rat Cliff Games, Under ashes is a first-person survival horror with a very interesting premise.

“Your friend sent you a link to a game someone posted online,” the synopsis begins.

“But when you play you quickly realize that something is terribly wrong. Whatever you do…keep playing.”

I bet that caught your attention.

Take a look Under ashes below – if you’re brave enough.

Set in the early 2000s, Under ashes sees you loading a game with the title that your fictional friend found online Night call.

But you will soon notice that Night callThe ghosts go far beyond your boxy PC.

There are some spring-like secrets to be discovered about the game’s creation.

Within Night callIn the game within the game, you explore an old mansion, solve puzzles and fight fearsome monsters.

But even in the “real” part of the game you will be haunted by “dark beings” who haunt the players.

You should get as much information about the game creator as possible.

“The truth remains in the ashes. Uncover it or you may not survive the night,” the developers tease.

The demo lasts between 30 and 45 minutes depending on how quickly you play through, and works on Steam Deck if you prefer that preferred method of play.

As we said, the free demo is available on Steam now and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something that’s perfect for the Halloween season.
