Shardez Taylor now plays soccer at USM

Vicksburg native Shardez Taylor now plays football at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Taylor confirmed to the Vicksburg Daily News over the weekend that he is now at USM.

“USM showed the most interest and the players all seemed like brothers, so I want to be with this king of the area,” Taylor said.

Taylor played at East Mississippi Community College last season before suffering a knee injury. He has spent the last few months rehabilitating his knee and is now back in action.

Taylor chose USM over the University of Colorado and is now competing for a starting spot with the Golden Eagles, who finished last year with a 7-6 record and a LendingTree Bowl victory.

“I still trained every day and never sat down, even the day of surgery I never stopped running,” Taylor added.

Taylor once played at both Vicksburg High School and Trinity Christian, where he helped his team win the Texas Christian Athletic League Championship as a senior. Now he has found a new home at USM, where he has four full years of eligibility.
