Full Texas vs. OU injury report for Week 7

The final update to the SEC-mandated injury reports for No. 1 Texas Football and No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners was released on Friday evening, October 11th.

Texas and Oklahoma will meet for the 120th time on October 12 in the Red River Rivalry game in the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns come to Red River this weekend with a healthier roster than head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners are taking to the Cotton Bowl.

The most significant update for the Longhorns heading into Red River is the return of redshirt junior starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Arch Manning started Texas’ last two games at quarterback while Ewers battled an abdominal strain injury.

Ewers was listed as “probable” on the injury report for this week’s first update. But he was completely removed from the injury report for the Longhorns in the Oct. 10 Thursday update.

This is the second time in Ewers’ career that he has returned from injury and his first start against the Sooners in Red River.

Here’s a look at the full injury report for the Week 7 Red River Rivalry game between No. 1 Texas and No. 18 Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX at the Texas State Fair on October 12th at 2:30 p.m Clock CT.

CJ Baxter Jr., RB (Out)

Christian Clark, RB (Aus)

Velton Gardner, RB (Aus)

Tate Haver, DS (probably)

Michael Kern, P (probably)

Freshman Michael Kern was upgraded from questionable to probable in Friday’s injury report update. That’s good news for the Longhorns after Kern appeared to be struggling with a stinger in Texas’ SEC-opening win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs a few weeks ago.

Kern won the starting punter job for the Longhorns this fall. He has averaged 42.8 yards per punt on 11 attempts in five games this season.

Colin Page, RB (probably)

Derek Williams Jr., S (probably)

After missing the last two full games with a lingering hamstring injury, sophomore safety Derek Williams Jr. is expected to return to the Longhorns’ secondary this weekend against Oklahoma.

Williams has started one game for the Longhorns this season, against the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines in Texas’ big 31-12 win over the defending champions in Ann Arbor in Week 2. Williams recorded his first career interception in that win in Week 2 over Michigan.

The Sooners are missing all five of their top receivers for this weekend’s Red River Rivalry game against Texas. Junior slot receiver Deion Burks is Oklahoma’s top receiver this season with 26 catches for 201 yards and three touchdowns.
