Senate Republican super PAC is seeking .6 million in new money in Wisconsin

Democrats’ 51-49 majority in the Senate is in serious jeopardy next month. The party is certain to lose a seat in West Virginia, with Republican Tim Sheehy leading Sen. Jon Tester in Montana and Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown facing a tough challenge in Ohio.

Wisconsin joins Pennsylvania and Michigan in the second tier of Senate races this fall. Republican victories there would mean a red wave that would bring the House to a clear majority for Trump’s party. Still, in all Senate races, Democrats are generally ahead in the polls, and Republican challengers are generally lagging behind Trump.

The McConnell-linked super PAC is now spending tens of millions of dollars on five races: Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. The lack of activity so far in Nevada and Arizona reflects steeper climbs by the GOP candidates against Sen. Jacky Rosen and Rep. Ruben Gallego, respectively.

The Senate Majority PAC, the largest Democratic outside group, this week bought a new tranche of ads in all seven of this fall’s biggest battlegrounds, as well as in Maryland. Although the Senate Democratic campaign arm is betting on defeating both Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Rick Scott, neither party’s major super PAC has gotten involved.

Florida and Texas are Democrats’ best chances to pick up Senate seats, despite being red states.
