Spiders open the season with victory over Davidson

HAMPTON, Va. – The University of Richmond women’s swimming and diving program got off to a successful start to the season. With 37 top-10 finishes on the day, the Spiders scored 621 points against the Wildcats on Friday night at the Hampton Aquaplex.

The Spiders took first place in four events:

Richmond’s 400-meter medley relay team (A) was successful, taking second place (3:53.76). The group was represented by juniors Caroline WeldonFreshmen Gabbie PrimianoFreshmen Madisyn Carter and Hughes.

Amare dominated in the water, taking second place in two events: 200m free (1:52.89) and 50m fly (25.92). She also took first place in the 100m free and 200m free relay.

Primano secured two second-place finishes in the 50 breaststroke (30.24) and the 200 breaststroke (2:21.65).

Tess Weatherhead She led the diving portion and placed seventh in the 3-meter dash (202.00) and ninth in the 1-meter dash (205.50).

Richmond will return to the pool tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on Duquesne on day two of the Richmond Duals.
