Free Music Friday: Dan Whitaker

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Songwriter Dan Whittaker is a lifelong musician with 14 albums of original songs.

His music is a freewheeling style that takes us on a journey through the ups and downs of life. He was at First News at Four for Free Music Friday this week.

Whitaker began playing in Chicago, far from his current home of Texas.

“I had a band there called the Great Plains Gypsies, so some of them have that name, and then I started a country band around 2002 and I’ve been playing that kind of thing ever since,” he said.

The song he played, “Lost in Thought,” was something he had written in college.

“[It’s] about an encounter I had with a girl that I recorded not long ago during the pandemic and re-recorded on a previous album,” Whittaker said.

Whitaker will be back in College Station on Thursday, November 14th in the cafeteria at Cavalry Court.

Whitaker and his music can be found here.
