TO SKI

Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States will not compete in downhill races in the upcoming World Cup season, in which she is aiming for her 100th career victory.

After a downhill accident in January that kept her off the slopes for six weeks – and cost her a record-breaking sixth overall win – Shiffrin has decided to remove the sport’s fastest and most dangerous discipline from her schedule.

“No departure, not this season. I would love to bring it back, but we’ll see how it goes,” she said.
