JACKSON, Wyo. – The Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation (Parks and Rec) climbing gym will remain closed Monday, Oct. 14 and Tuesday, Oct. 15, while outdoor hard courts will remain open through Friday, Oct. 14. 18, due to favorable weather conditions.

According to a news release, the climbing gym will be closed to allow staff to perform quarterly maintenance on walls and equipment, deep clean the facility and facilitate training. The training clinic will allow a team of route setters to make modifications to sections of the climbing gym to create new routes for the community to explore and climb.

A campus board training system will also be added to the upper mezzanine, as well as a new anchor building practice station where aspiring outdoor climbers can safely practice top rope and sport climbing anchor construction, equipment placement and the basics of traditional anchor building. Parks and Rec says.

According to the press release, staff is aware of the inconvenience of a temporary closure of the climbing gym and will work to keep climbing gym closures to a minimum in the future. When the gym reopens on Wednesday, October 16, users will experience new climbs, new features and a fresh, clean gym.

In the meantime, staff plans to remove windshields and leave nets on the outdoor hard courts until weather conditions change. The Miller Park courts’ lights will remain on until next week to allow evening access.

Staff will also increase agronomic practices in city and county parks over the next few years
month to ensure turf health and a successful winterization, and still expect the seasonal dog park at the Teton County Fairgrounds to open the first week of November.

The public is encouraged to visit the Parks and Recreation website and social media accounts for the most up-to-date information on seasonal closures and openings.
