Novato prevails over Terra Linda – Marin Independent Journal

The Novato High football team continued to lean on its defense, limiting Terra Linda to a single touchdown in a 37-7 home win Thursday afternoon.

The Hornets (5-1, 3-0 Redwood Empire Mountain) have won five straight games and have scored a total of 21 points during the winning streak. Sal Carrow made one of the game’s key plays with a pick-six early in the third quarter, extending Novato’s lead to 16-7. Leo Hernandez led the Hornets with six tackles. Alvin De Leon had two sacks and three tackles.

Running back John DeMartini had another great game, running 27 times for 223 yards and two scores. DeMartini also caught four balls for 55 yards.

The Hornets outscored TL (3-3, 0-2) 28-0 in the second half despite going down to their fourth quarterback late in the game. Trevor Cleary, Dominic Scafani and CJ Castro all left the game with injuries. Carrow finished the game at quarterback for Novato.

Alex Felchin scored Novato’s first touchdown and the defense added a safety for a 9-0 lead. Felchin added another touchdown run in the second half.

San Rafael wins

Quarterback Lachlan Royston had his best game of the season, throwing four touchdown passes as the Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead en route to a 41-12 win over Archie Williams (3-4, 1-2 Mountain) at home on Thursday night .

Royston completed 13 of his 16 passes for 218 yards. Joe Miller also threw a touchdown for San Rafael (4-2, 2-1). Dante Canziani had four catches for 118 yards and two scores, while Harper Corso had six catches for 90 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bulldogs led 20-0 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 34-6 at halftime. Sophomore Rio Johnson led the Bulldogs with 54 rushing yards, including a touchdown.

Branson rolls

After two weeks of inactivity, the Branson School was eager to get back into action on Thursday with a dominant 60-6 performance against John Swett in Crockett.

The Bulls (3-1, 1-0 North Central League II) had a 40-0 halftime lead over the Warriors (1-3, 0-1). Branson is scheduled to host South Fork on October 19th.

Branson quarterback Tom Lardner took a 16-0 lead after the first quarter and had a 15-yard touchdown run. Colby Buxton added a two-pointer in the second quarter for a 24-0 lead. Buxton added eight more points with a 20-yard run and subsequent conversion moments later, and Chase Hoeveler converted before halftime with a 19-yard run.

Lardner passed the ball in the second half with a touchdown pass to Mario Rodriguez, Treyvor Mathews and Hoeveler to cap the score.

Tomales falls

The Braves had their best offensive performance of the season, but couldn’t keep up with unbeaten Cornerstone Christian (6-0) in a 54-22 road loss on Thursday. Tomales (0-6, 0-1 NCL III) remained winless this season.

Girls volleyball

Maddie Booth had a strong all-around game with 18 assists, 14 digs, five kills and three aces to lead Marin Academy to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-15 win over San Domenico on Thursday.

Girls golf

Terra Linda’s Mia Schlotman shot a 39 at McInnis Park on Thursday, but the Trojans lost to Tam 183-195 in Terra Linda’s final regular-season game. Alessia Ducati and Alex Forbes each shot a 41 for Tam. The MCAL tournament is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Meadow Club.

  • Redwood’s Maddy Lim shot a low 39 as the Giants defeated Archie Williams 161-225 at the Meadow Club on Thursday. Chloe Branson and Taylor Bridges tied at 41 for the Giants. Mirabelle Davis (51) and Kaiya Chiu (54) led the Peregrine Falcons (4-10).
  • Lexi Ferguson’s low 45 lifted Marin Catholic (191) past San Marin (199) and Novato (238) at Indian Valley on Wednesday. Sammy Low shot a 48 for the Mustangs (9-5) and Hayley Picetti shot a 51 for the Hornets.
  • Kelly Lundgren’s personal best of 49 points on Thursday at Peacock Gap gave Marin Academy a narrow 200-203 victory over rival San Domenico (8-3 BCL). Elsa Anderson shot a 48 to put the Wildcats ahead (10-2 BCL), while the Panthers’ Mila Dawson scored a low medalist 46. Marin Academy, San Domenico and St. Joseph are in a three-way battle for the regular-season championship title heading into the final week of play before the Bay Counties League tournament on Oct. 21 at Peacock Gap.

Girls tennis

Tam High’s Maya Risgaard earned a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Marin Catholic’s Christiane Zuber at No. 1 singles, while the Red-tailed Hawks earned a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats on Thursday . Marin Catholic’s top doubles pair of Payton Greco and Natalie Martin edged Tam’s Maria-Jose Stuart and Sophia Tiemens 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 to secure the Wildcats’ only victory.

  • The Trojans’ Kylie Lee defeated the Bulldogs’ Lea Gurman 6-2, 6-0 and set the pace as Terra Linda defeated rival San Rafael 7-0 on Thursday. Jamie Schmidt, Chloe Sason and Mimi Kemp also won individual victories for Terra Linda.
  • Clare Zhu and Emily McCoy posted 6-0 and 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, to lead San Marin over crosstown rival Novato 6-1 on Thursday. Shryia Pannala of the Mustangs held her own against Mikka Weber of the Hornets 6-0, 3-6, 10-7 in singles at No. 4. Novato’s Jaya Hugand won 6-2, 6-2 in third-place singles against Maggie White.

Field hockey for girls

Sophomore Caroline Cibrowski and junior Lolo Bosch each scored two goals to lead Marin Catholic to a 6-0 win over Marin Academy on Thursday. Seniors Elsa Greene and Isabella Meneses each contributed a goal for the Wildcats.

  • Redwood fell 2-1 to second-seeded University on Thursday before a showdown with third-seeded Marin Catholic on Friday.

Women’s water polo

Annabelle Phillips scored four goals and added two assists as College of Marin defeated host San Mateo 9-6 on Wednesday. Marlee Ostrom and Delaney Mannor each scored two goals for the Mariners, while Terra Linda High graduate Jane McNevin contributed a goal and four assists. San Marin High student Marie Fehring made 17 saves in the Mariners net.
